Day 1: Transfer to Budongo forest.

On the first day of the two-day chimpanzee trekking trip in Budongo Forest, you will be met at the Entebbe International Airport by your safari guide who will give you an overview of the safari before beginning the transfer to Budongo Forest. The trip requires a 5- to 6-hour drive, and along the way, you’ll stop for lunch in Masindi and again stop for rhino tracking at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. The only place in Uganda where you may see endangered white rhinos in their native habitat is the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. After tracking rhinos, you will continue your journey, until you reach Murchison falls national park, enter the park, and go to Budongo Forest in the southern region. There, you will check into the lodge for dinner and the night.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and departure to Kampala.

On the final day of the two-day chimpanzee trek in the Budongo Forest, you will wake up early in the morning and be served with leisurely breakfast, meet your driver guide to travel to the park’s administrative centre for a briefing on the guidelines for chimpanzee trekking. After the briefing, a park guide who is knowledgeable about the forest’s pathways will be assigned to you together with a chimpanzee family to trek. The trekking will then begin. Because chimpanzees tend to go deep into the forest in search of food, especially during the dry season, chimpanzee trekking in the Budongo forest can take anything from 30 minutes to 4 hours, depending on where the chimps are situated.
