7 Days Rwanda and Congo Safari

When going on a mountain gorilla trekking excursion, one of these families is visited.

Other places to travel are Tanzania’s largest lake, Lake Kivu; Nyungwe National Park, where you can go on a canopy walk and observe chimpanzees; and Nyiragongo Volcano, which offers strenuous hiking.  Rwanda’s capital city of Kigali is where this safari starts and ends.

Detailed itinerary of the safari.

Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.

On the 1st day of 7 Days Rwanda and Congo safari you will be transferred to volcanoes national park, onto your arrival at Kigali international port you will be picked by a company’s safari guide  from Primate Holidays then take on the drive to Volcanoes national park. You will travel through breathtaking scenery of rolling hills on your route to the park, where you will check into your lodge, have dinner and spend the night. 

Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking.

On the 2nd day of 7 Days Rwanda and Congo safari you are to take part in Mountain gorilla trekking safari experience, after morning breakfast you will head to the park’s headquarters for briefing with your safari guide. During the briefing you will be given the dos and don’ts to follow will be read to you then be allocated a gorilla family to trek, with your packed lunch you will head in the forests in search for mountain gorillas. It takes roughly thirty minutes to six hours to search for mountain gorillas. Once you locate them, you will spend an hour watching them as they move through their habitat, gather fruits, and capture pictures as long as your camera has no flush. After your incredible experience, you will return to the park’s headquarters to pick the gorilla trekking certificates for participating in gorilla trekking. In the afternoon, you have the opportunity to visit the Iby’wacu cultural community stroll, where you can engage in fascinating conversations with the locals and watch performances of songs and dances in the local dialect. You will spend the night at your lodge and have dinner there.

Day 3: transfer to Nyungwe National Park.

On the 3rd day of 7 Days Rwanda and Congo safari, you will get up early in the morning and take a hearty breakfast. Check out from your lodge and meet your safari driver then embark on a drive to Nyungwe national park. While travelling, you will stop for lunch at the Nyanza King’s Palace and the Murambi Genocide Memorial Site. Once you reach the park, you will eat dinner and spend the night there.

Day 4: chimpanzees tracking and canopy walk.

On the 4th day of your 7 days Rwanda and Congo safari, you will embark on a canopy walk and track primates. After an early breakfast, you will go to the park’s headquarters for a briefing during which a ranger will inform you the laws and regulations that you must abide by. Then head into the forests of Nyungwe national park to look for chimpanzee, on the trek you will see other attractions like primates like monkeys, baboons and many birds. When you locate the chimpanzee, you will get to take incredible photos and enjoy watching them play with tree branches. After spending one hour with the chimpanzees you will make your way back to the park headquarters then head to your lodge for lunch, in the afternoon you will return to the park for a canopy walk. In the national park of Nyungwe Forest, the canopy is located atop a bridge that is 70 metres high and 160 metres long, hung above a valley of dense montane rainforest. You may take in the views of the surrounding area, birds, monkeys, and verdant trees while strolling along the canopy walk. You will return to your lodge in the evening, have dinner, and spend the night there.

Day 5: transfer to Lake Kivu.

On the 5th day of 7 Days Congo and Rwanda safari you are to transfer to Lake Kivu, after early morning breakfast, check out from your lodge and you will meet your safari drive and go on a drive to the outstanding Lake Kivu the largest lake in Rwanda. Depending on how much time you have, you can partake in sports like swimming, water skiing, wind surfing, canoeing, and coffee excursions when you get in Lake Kivu. In the evening you will have dinner and stay overnight at your lodge.

Day 6: Nyiragongo hiking.

On the 6th of 7 Days Rwanda and Congo safari you will hike to the summit of mount Nyiragongo, after early morning breakfast you will drive to Kibati ranger post the starting point of the hike. A ranger will give you an overview of the safari before you begin your five to six hour walk. At the summit of the volcano you will be awarded with views boiling red lava in the crater lava lake, you are to have dinner and stay overnight at the volcanoes campsite.

Day 7: descending to the bottom.

On the last day of 7 Days Congo & Rwanda Safari you are to go down to the bottom of mount Nyiragongo and transfer to back to Rwanda, after early breakfast at the crater rim you will getting your descending hike heading to the bottom of Nyiragongo crater. After meeting your safari driver at the Kibati ranger post, you will travel back to Kigali for a drop-off with a border crossing at Goma. Once in Kigali, you will have lunch before being dropped off at either the hotel or the airport in Kigali for your departure flight.
