3 Days Chimpanzee Trekking Safari

This captivating safari explores Uganda’s Kibale National Park in western Uganda, renowned for its critically endangered chimpanzees and diverse primate population including the grey-cheeked mangabey, vervet monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and olive baboons. The itinerary also features a nature walk in Bigodi Swamp, offering opportunities to observe various birds, butterflies, primates, and mammals amidst the lush surroundings.

Highlights

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Kibale national park.

The 3-day chimpanzee trekking safari in Kibale National Park begins with a warm welcome from our representative at Entebbe Airport, followed by a briefing about the itinerary. The journey to Kibale National Park in western Uganda entails a scenic drive from Kampala to Mubende, lasting approximately five to six hours. En route, you’ll enjoy lunch in Fort Portal and marvel at terraced farmlands, tea and banana plantations, crater lakes, and the Rwenzori mountain ranges. Upon arrival at Kibale National Park, you’ll check into your lodge, where dinner will be served, and you’ll spend the night.

 

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi swamp walk.

On the second day of the 3-day Kibale chimpanzee trekking safari, guests begin with an early breakfast before meeting their guide and transferring to the park headquarters for a briefing on chimpanzee trekking protocols. Paired with a knowledgeable park guide, visitors embark on a trek through Kibale National Park, which may vary in duration from 30 minutes to four hours depending on the chimps’ location. Along the way, participants have opportunities to spot butterflies, birds, plants, and other wildlife. Upon encountering the chimpanzee family, guests enjoy observing their behaviors for an hour, including feeding, playing, and resting, while refraining from flash photography. After the trek, guests return to the lodge for lunch with their guide, concluding the chimpanzee trekking adventure.

 

Day 3: Departure to Kampala.

On the last morning of your three-day chimpanzee-trekking safari in Kibale National Park, you’ll enjoy a relaxed breakfast before checking out of the lodge. Your driver guide will then accompany you back to Kampala, stopping for lunch at the Igongo Cultural Centre, known for its delicious spiced cuisine. Upon arrival in Kampala in the early evening, your driver guide will ensure you reach your specified destination, whether it’s Entebbe International Airport for your departure or another location of your choice.
