3 days lowland gorilla Congo safari is a brief safari providing tourists an opportunity to visit Kahuzi Biega national park and connect the lowland gorillas which is a home to about 4,800 eastern lowland gorillas, Eastern lowland gorillas are right away cousins to the Western lowland gorillas living in the forests of Central Africa. The main attraction of this safari is the Eastern Low Land Trekking Experience. It starts in Kigali and crosses the Cyangugu border to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Highlights

Day 1: transfer from Kigali to Bukavu – Congo.

On the first day of the safari, a safari driver from Primate Holidays will pick you up from Kigali International Airport upon your arrival. You will travel to Rwanda via the Cyangugu border, where you will stop to take in the expansive vistas of the country’s many rolling hills. When you arrive in Bukavu a tourist city of Democratic Republic of Congo you will proceed to Kahuzi Biega national park, check into your lodge/hotel, have dinner and stay overnight.

 

Day 2: low land gorilla trekking experience.

On the second day of the safari you will get up early in the morning, have a delicious breakfast and with your packed lunch you will make your way to the headquarters of Kahuzi Biega national park for registration and briefing. After registration you will be briefed about the rules and regulations to be followed as you trek the low land mountain gorillas, at the headquarters you are also assigned to a gorilla group and then trek into the forests looking for the lowland gorillas. When you locate them, you can spend an hour taking pictures and recording videos. After that, you can return to the park’s headquarters to pick up your trekking certificates. You might choose to visit the Kibati Waterfalls, Mbayo Tea Estate, or the village of Buhavu as a community excursion from the headquarters. In the evening you will return to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 3: transfer back to Kigali.

The third and last day of the Congo safari will begin with breakfast, a check-out from your lodge, and a journey towards Kigali via the Changungu border, with a stopover at Nyanza’s Kings Palace along route.  At the kings palace you will visit the king tomb and his wife’s, you will additionally visit the Butare museum and when you arrive in Kigali you will be dropped off at the hotel or at the airport for your departure flight.
