Highlights

Day 1: Arrival and Kigali city tour.

The 4-day Golden Monkey trekking and Mount Karisimbi hike safari begins with a briefing session led by your guide in Kigali city or at Kigali International Airport. During this briefing, you’ll learn about the rules and regulations for the activities ahead, including golden monkey trekking and hiking. Following the briefing, the safari kicks off with a Kigali city tour, featuring visits to significant sites such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial Museum and Kimironko Market. The tour concludes with a dining experience at a local restaurant. Afterwards, you’ll head to Volcanoes National Park, where you’ll check into your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Golden Monkey Trekking.

Day 2 of the 4-day Golden Monkey Trekking and Mount Karisimbi Hike begins with an early breakfast at your hotel. A guide will then pick you up and take you to Volcanoes National Park for the golden monkey trekking experience. Upon arrival at the park, you’ll be briefed at the headquarters and assigned a guide and ranger for the trek. During the trek, you’ll encounter various sights such as bird species and other primates. Upon finding the habituated golden monkey troop, you’ll spend an hour observing and photographing them before returning to your lodge for lunch and relaxation.

Later in the day, you’ll visit the Iby’wacu cultural villages to learn about Rwandan culture. Activities will include community walks, banana beer making, subsistence farming, and preparing local dishes. In the evening, you’ll transfer back to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 3: mount Karisimbi hike.

On the third day of the 4 Days Rwanda Golden Monkeys & Mt Karisimbi Hike, participants start with an early breakfast at their lodge before heading to the park for the hike up Mount Karisimbi. The mountain, part of the Virunga range in Rwanda, boasts dense vegetation and diverse wildlife, including various bird species like the handsome francolin, strange weaver, and Ruwenzori turaco, as well as butterflies. Along the way, trekkers will pass by the Karisoke Research Centre, founded by Dian Fossey, known for her work with mountain gorillas. The hike offers chances to encounter mountain gorillas, including the Susa gorilla family studied by Fossey, as well as other gorilla groups and golden monkeys. The summit serves as the camping zone for the night.

 

Day 4: Departure.

After an early breakfast at the summit on the fourth day of your four day Golden Monkey trekking and Mount Karisimbi hike, you will head down the mountain and into Kigali city, where you will have lunch at one of the best restaurants in city. After that, you will be dropped off at a location of your choice in Kigali city or at Kigali International Airport, marking the end of your safari.
