Highlights

 Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Kibale national Park.

The 5-day Kibale and Bwindi trekking safari begins with a warm welcome at Entebbe Airport, where you’ll be greeted by a company representative and a driver/guide. After a briefing about the itinerary, you’ll embark on a scenic journey to Kibale Forest, passing through Mityana town with a lunch stop in Fort Portal town. Upon arrival at Kibale Forest late in the day, you’ll check into your lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

 

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale forest national park.

On the second day of the 5-day Kibale and Bwindi trekking safaris, start with a leisurely breakfast before meeting your safari guide. Proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing, then head to Kanyanchu for chimpanzee tracking, which may take half a day. Along the way, spot various primates like golden monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys, and baboons. After locating the chimpanzees, spend an hour observing their behaviors, taking photos, and recording videos before returning to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided nature walk through Bigodi Swamp Sanctuary, ideal for birdwatching with species like the Great Blue Turaco and Papyrus Gonolek. Return to the lodge for dinner, relaxation, and overnight stay.

 

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park.

On the third day of the 5-day Kibale and Bwindi trekking safaris, start the day with an early breakfast before departing for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the habitat of the gorillas. Travel through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, known for its iconic tree-climbing lions. Enjoy the scenic journey to Bwindi, stopping for lunch along the way. Arrive in the afternoon and check into your accommodation for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

 

Day 4: Mountain gorilla trekking.

On the fourth day of the 5-day Kibale and Bwindi trekking safari, guests start with an early breakfast before meeting their safari guide at the park headquarters. Following a briefing on gorilla trekking rules, guests are grouped into teams of eight and accompanied by an experienced armed ranger. The trek can last between 2 to 8 hours depending on the gorillas’ location, offering opportunities to observe the forest’s biodiversity. Spending an hour with the gorillas allows for close observation and activities like photography and video recording. Afterward, guests return to receive their gorilla trekking certificates. For those still energized, optional activities include visiting the nearby Batwa community or exploring the Munyanja river trail for bird and butterfly sightings. The day concludes with dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

 

Day 5: Back to Kampala.

On the fifth and final day of the 5-day Kibale and Bwindi trekking safaris, start the day with an early breakfast. As the safari comes to an end, embark on the journey back to Kampala. Along the way, stop for lunch in Mbarara and have the option for photography at the equator. The excursion concludes with a transfer to Entebbe Airport for your return flight home, marking the end of the memorable gorilla trekking and chimpanzee trekking adventure.
