The 8-day Uganda Primates and Wildlife Safari offers a diverse journey through some of Uganda’s most remarkable national parks. Beginning at Lake Mburo National Park, visitors encounter a variety of animals including zebras, impalas, elands, and buffaloes. The tour proceeds to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for an unforgettable Uganda gorilla trekking experience. Continuing to Queen Elizabeth National Park, highlights include a boat ride on Kazinga Channel and a game drive in Kasenyi Plains. The adventure concludes at Kibale National Park, where guests can observe chimpanzees in their natural habitat, completing an enriching exploration of Uganda’s primates and wildlife.

Highlights

 Day 1 of the 8 days primates and wildlife safari.

On the first day of the 8-day primates and wildlife safari, upon arrival, your safari guide will provide an introduction to your trip. You’ll then be transferred to a hotel in Kampala, where you can relax. Depending on your arrival time, you may opt for a Kampala city tour, visiting attractions such as the Uganda National Museum, Independence Monument, and Nakasero Market, followed by lunch. Afterward, return to your hotel for dinner, evening relaxation, and overnight stay.

 

Day 2: Transfer to Lake Mburo national park.

On the second day of your 8-day primates and wildlife safari, begin with an early breakfast before checking out of your lodge. Your driver-guide will then transport you to Lake Mburo National Park. En route, you’ll stop at the equator for photo opportunities and shopping for souvenirs. Upon arrival at the park, you’ll check into your lodge and enjoy lunch before embarking on an afternoon game drive. Expect to encounter a variety of wildlife including zebras, topis, buffaloes, impalas, and more. Following the game drive, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park.

On the third day of your 8-day primates and wildlife safari, after breakfast, you’ll check out of your lodge and meet your driver guide to head to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. En route, passing through Mbarara and Kabale towns, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Kigezi hills, countryside landscapes, and local homesteads. Lunch will be served in Kabale town. Upon arrival at the park, you’ll check into your lodge for an evening of relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

 

Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park.

On the fourth day of your 8-day Uganda primates and wildlife Safari, following an early breakfast, you’ll gather a packed lunch and rendezvous with your driver guide to head to the park offices for a briefing on gorilla trekking protocols. Grouped into parties of eight, each assigned a specific gorilla family, accompanied by a park guide familiar with the forest trails, you’ll embark on the trek. The duration of the trek varies from 30 minutes to 6 hours, contingent upon the gorillas’ whereabouts. Upon encountering the gorillas, you’ll have an hour to observe and learn about their behaviors, capturing photos and videos. Afterward, you can opt for cultural tours to visit the Batwa in their homes, engaging with them. Finally, you’ll return to the lodge for dinner, relaxation, and overnight stay, accompanied by your driver-guide.

 

Day 5: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park.

On the fifth day of your 8-day Uganda primates and wildlife Safari, you’ll begin with breakfast before checking out of the lodge. You’ll then meet your driver guide to proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park, passing through the Ishasha sector known for its tree-climbing lions. Along the way, you’ll stop for lunch at Kitagata hot springs, offering views of the healing natural waters and picturesque landscapes. Continuing your journey, you’ll arrive at the park, enjoying sightings of various animals as you drive to your lodge. Upon arrival, you’ll check in, relax, and conclude the day with dinner and an overnight stay.

 

Day 6: Game drive/ lion tracking and boat cruise.

On the sixth day of the 8-day Uganda primates and wildlife safari, after an early breakfast, you’ll join your driver guide for a morning game drive or lion tracking experience in Kasenyi Plains. Expect sightings of elephants, lions, leopards, Uganda kobs, and various bird species including grey crowned cranes and African white-backed vultures. Following the game drive, you’ll visit Katwe Crater Lake, where locals harvest rock salt, before returning to the lodge for lunch. Later, enjoy an afternoon boat ride on the Kazinga Channel, observing hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and a variety of water birds. The day ends with dinner, relaxation, and overnight stay at the lodge.

 

Day 7: Transfer to Kibale national park.

On the seventh day of the 8-day primates and wildlife safari, after breakfast and checking out of the lodge, you’ll meet your driver guide for a journey to Kibale National Park. Along the way, you’ll marvel at scenic views of the Rwenzori Mountains, tea plantations, and crater lakes. Upon arrival at the park, you’ll check into your lodge and enjoy lunch. Later, you’ll embark on a Bigodi wetland walk, encountering various bird species such as the great blue turaco and kingfishers, as well as primates like grey-cheeked mangabeys and black-and-white colobus monkeys. The serene ambiance allows for relaxation and immersion in nature. After the walk, return to the lodge for dinner, evening relaxation, and overnight stay.

 

Day 8: Chimpanzee trekking and departure.

On the final day of the 8-day primates and wildlife safari, following breakfast, you’ll meet with your driver guide and proceed to the Kanyachu Visitors Centre for a briefing on chimpanzee trekking protocols. Assigned a chimpanzee family and accompanied by a knowledgeable park guide, you’ll trek through the forest, encountering various primate species, birds, and trees. Upon locating the chimpanzees, you’ll spend an hour observing and learning about their behavior in their natural habitat, capturing photos and videos. Afterward, you’ll return to the park’s offices, where your driver guide will transport you to the lodge for lunch. Following lunch, you’ll check out and depart for Kampala, arriving in the early evening. Your driver guide will drop you off at your desired location or at the airport for departure.
